Infineon, Philips and several other chip manufacturers
threatens huge penalty after representatives of the European Commission for
Competition launched an investigation against the company for alleged
price-fixing association and chips used in SIM cards for mobile phones,
passports and bank cards.
Representatives of the European Commission
stressed that the report submitted by the companies for which they suspect that
they behaved as a cartel in the market for chips "smart" cards. The
report does not identify the company, but Infineon and Philips Netherlands have
confirmed that they have received this report in order to appeal to him.
Philips representatives stated that the document refers to the company's 2003rd
and 2004th, while those in the meantime sold the business with chips. If the
allegations prove accurate European Commission, companies could get a sentence
of up to 10% of global revenues.
